Passing on the successes to the next leader

April 9, 2026

In working with people who are ready to take the next step in their leadership challenges and growth, they often want to make sure their subordinates are exposed to what works and what does not work before they move on to their next level of leading.

Leading in a large organization with many direct reports and identifying the successes and rich performances is a “cliff note” and a key tender to the next leaders. Let them know your successes and mistakes; let them know how you rectified the issues and share with them the “smarts” you gained by acknowledging things could have gone more smoothly with better data and less opinion, possibility less arrogant opinions.

Leave a legacy. Know what your legacy is and take good care of you for your next endeavors. Examining, again and again, what works and what did not work, keeps you agile, smart, current and respected, both for you and your colleagues.
