Memorial Day And Memories
May 26, 2026
Memorial Day is a day for remembering and thanking people we don’t even know. We just know of them; for what they did; where they did it; the courage and bravery and situations that most of us will never have to face.
I was shopping for gifts for my clients the other day to fill a “gift” bag with goodies. Candies, trinkets, and all of a sudden there was a long aisle of American flags. All sorts of shapes and sizes and powerfully seeing all of the flag materials on both sides of the aisle, like walking in a place where only respect could happen.
The American flag is recognized all over the world. Arlington Cemetery puts a flag on each grave stone for this “holiday” as a reminder and remembrance of why the flag needs to be everywhere, all at once, powerfully reminding us that this day is about remembering the best and the worst and the scary and the sacrifices. So I bought a bunch of the flags at the store, placed them around my garden and sat in my Army Brat attention remembering those that are not here except in my memory and heart.
