Kids, Presents And Tape
December 11, 2025
You probably have someone in your office or family that is a perfect gift wrapper. You know, those presents where you cannot see the tape, the paper is perfectly aligned and the bows are handmade and clever.
Not in my world – probably not in your world either. When I had kids at home, they were the present wrappers. You set up a table (or floor) with lots of paper (tissue paper is acceptable too), a huge bag of bows and SEVERAL packs of tape. Scotch, duck, masking tape. It does not matter. It gets used and the kids will tape everything in a way that makes the gift almost impossible to open. (Also fun to watch on gift giving day).
Once I learned how to “use” my kids as gift wrappers, it turned into a very fun activity and I never had to wrap anything ever again. But and this is a big but, you have to have gobs of tape. These kids use all of the tape, no matter how much you provide. And the people receiving the gifts? They think it is adorable and maybe a bit weird. If you don’t have kids, borrow one; use a daycare to wrap your presents; ask a preschool teacher if she needs an activity for the kids; ask your neighbor kids if they want to help. (cookies are a good incentive).
