It All Begins With Awareness

I looked up what “awareness” is and how it is defined. The reason: so much of our media encourages us to be “present’, “in the moment”, “listening” and more. And I find most of the time, you need to take a deep breath just to know where you are.

Techology has us in a bind and fully engaged with reels and scrolling. And that is not awareness.

a·ware·ness

noun

  1. knowledge or perception of a situation or fact.
“we need to raise public awareness of the issue”

And here are words that are “similar” in meaning:

consciousness
recognition
realization
cognizance
perception
apprehension
understanding
grasp

appreciation
acknowledgment
knowledge
sensitivity to
sensibility to
insight into
familiarity with
acquaintance with

These are a nice bunch of similar definitions that indicate a conscious knowing of being present and AWARE.

So where are you most of the time?

As a leader, doer, owner, executive, partner there is a big responsibility to being aware and then being there where the awareness is happening, or should be happening.

We need to consciously to snap out of the tech fog and into the interpersonal clarity.

We have all seen and experienced groups of people gathered and then only interacting through their phones. That is not awareness.

And what about all the recent articles (the past two years) talking about the inability of our youngsters to relate to each other or be in relationship; have a simple conversation; reduce anxiety and feel safe.

How are you feeling these days?

The energy of the media and the chaos of the world has truly got many of us by the short hairs and the tug is over…it is beginning to hurt.

I recommend the following:

    • leave your phone alone for 1-2 hours a day
    • do not have your phone on your bedside table when you go to bed
    • skip the reels and read
    • breathe, try conscious breathing…stop and breathe, set an alarm to breathe
    • eat well, sleep, move your body
    • find things to have a hardy laugh about – when was the last time you had a wonderful, breath taking, belly laugh??

Yes, there are hundreds of ways to get back to you. So what ones are you doing on a regular basis so you even attempt being aware and then show you care, to yourself and others?

Caring isn’t always for others…it could be this awareness is just for you. That I applaud.

I garden and love getting dirty. That is my alone and be with me time. I discovered that I was invading my own space by taking my phone to every part of my yard, all the time.

I became aware. Now when I need a break during the day, I let the NMA staff know I will be without technology for a period of time. It has caused no problems and others are starting to relieve the burden of technology and working on awareness…for one’s self and others.

It is a beautiful thing. You deserve it.

BTW, when you actually spend time in awareness with you, you will find a really pretty remarkable human with you…YOU.

Do it. I dare you. (let me know how it goes)

To your success,

P.S. Coaching is not an option sometimes. We just need it. Have you ever watched a professional ballgame on your screen when the coaches were not right there, on the sidelines, cheering the person on? That is coaching…cheering, pointing, supporting, discussion and caring about you and your remarkable self. What are your talents and strengths? Let’s discuss them. A visit to your “self” is just what might be needed right here and right now.
