A Checklist For Communicating Well

There is never a wrong time to communicate well. There are many wrong times to not communicate especially if you are not clear with what is most important and the outcomes you want from communicating.

Make a list. Here is what you want to say/communicate; here is what is working; here is what is not working; share examples of when the things did not work well; provide suggestions and examples for better clarity; review for accuracy; present the information; ask how the information landed for them; welcome the feedback.

The best part of the communication for me as a coach is what the person provides during the feedback. You find out things that you had never thought of…other people are brilliant if you let them. Clear communication is worth the effort of taking the time to debrief yourself before you communicate.
