Why Is There A Leader?

Why Is There A Leader?

I asked this question once with a team I was working with and the answer was “So we know who to blame if it all goes badly”. There was a large laugh to this comment, but it is sad to think that blame, rather than success, would even elicit this question.

Team training, at the executive and senior level, can be touchy. Most executives think they are done learning. They have arrived. And most of them don’t even get formal performance reviews during the year. This is so unhealthy for the leaders and the organization. No leader is ever done learning.

Make sure you know who is leading and how you can contribute to the success of the person and the project. Yes, some leaders are stinkers. However, they sign your paycheck and direct the process. Make sure you understand, clearly, what is needed and then support; contribute; research; work; to the success of the leader/project/organization. Your contribution will be recognized and you will be learning how to support a team and lead when it is hard. Never ever stop supporting and contributing your best. Oh the stories I could share……
