Successful difficult communication tips, techniques and strategies

You can have successful conversations (even those viewed as difficult) with pretty much anyone and anywhere if you remember and/or do the following:

  • Don’t take too long to have the difficult communication and make sure that it matters that the communication takes place
  • Be very clear about the outcome that you want from the communication and that it is key to any sort of real resolution to an important situation
  • Understand how you feel about the conversation and if you have a narrow view of the problem, examine what is most important for the resolution and do that

Difficult conversations can be turned into high performance shifts for those that are involved with the issues. Create the outcomes you want for everyone and then have the conversation(s) that will support the aligned and successful outcomes.
