What relationship builders do you use as you lead your team on Zoom?
Meeting by the water cooler is passe and almost a joke. New college grads that are interning this summer are in their new offices to be onboarded. Their leaders are not in the office. The personal and physical presence that was standard is now sketchy and not necessarily working at all.
My suggestions for building relationships on Zoom as a leader is to ASK people what they need; what is working and what is not working and then listen to their answers. My coaching includes creating a method for these kinds of conversations to happen often. So what is your definition of often? Daily, weekly, monthly? If you have not shared this kind of openness before, I would start immediately and then ask the attendees what they would like for a frequency.
There is a rhythm to getting to building a relationship. If you think about what you need in order to participate in a relationship, it is probably on the same list as those on your team. Make your list and then implement the process. Onboarding is an ongoing process. Keep asking and keep doing what they ask for and I guarantee life on Zoom will be so much better.
