The longer you stay annoyed, the more the story changes…
This past week several of my clients have had difficulties with subordinates or colleagues regarding deadlines and accountability. It can be frustrating to have people continually miss deadlines and then fuss with you about it.
AND the longer the fussing goes on – who is right; who said what; was anything clear to begin with; the more the story changes into judgement on who is “right”. Grumbling with yourself about who did what does not solve the issue and it also does not help the resolution of the issue.
As a leader, your job and talents require you to create clarity with issues, communicate clearly the outcomes needed and to develop best practices on how to avoid the lack of accountability in the future…no matter how frustrating the situation.
