Housekeeping And Screen Time Success Rules…

Housekeeping And Screen Time Success Rules…
The amount of zoom and team meetings (or whatever software you are using to communicate via screen) is increasing. And it can become exhausting if not set up well. My recommendation is that EVERY meeting start with the housekeeping rules; purpose; how long the meeting will be; what needs to be covered; who is attending (introduce the new people) and who is presenting. Cameras always on.
Too many and frequent meetings are using the static background or no cameras. Not sure why. I’ve heard the reasons, but they do not make accountability sense. You do not want people doing other things while you are meeting and they will if not fully engaged. If it is a small regularly scheduled team meeting, stay unmuted the entire time. Many times we are just looking for conversations about the topic and unmuting each time is annoying, breaks the conversation and allows too much time between important discussions.
When a new person comes into an organization, there is an onboarding process. I recommend, HIGHLY, you have a real culture of housekeeping/onboarding for each meeting. If you say there are too many meetings to do that, then, maybe you are having too many meetings. Make the meeting time clear and productive each and every meeting.
