What stops us from breathing deeply and easily?

What stops us from breathing deeply and easily?
When we are afraid, whether big or little afraid moments, our breathing changes dramatically. Most often, if you were able to observe others, you will see that they are holding their breath waiting for the “terrible” thing to happen. Our breath clues in the rest of our body and our reptilian brain that alerts us to either flee or fight. Lack of easy breathing that feels just so good, can keep us in the constant state “OMG, here comes the terrible thing”. Cortisol fills our body and we stay on the edge of fear and anger much of our day. Cortisol is toxic when we activate it so much of the time.
Stress, anxiety and fear use the cortisol to get the heck out of where we are even if there is no reason to run. Our bodies do what we alert them to do. Constant anxiety and stress calls up cortisol to do what we don’t need – running scared in the other direction.
Family can cause this. Bosses can cause this. We can cause it by watching the news or participating on social media. Our body works for us. Are you working for your body? Your 100 Trillion body cells do not need to be stimulated 24/7. Immediate help to lessen the negative situation is in our breathing. Try 3 deep breaths – you will immediately feel refreshed and less anxious.
