Realistic Goals With Real Knowledge

David Neagle, one of my favorite success coaches, shares that if you don’t know where you are you cannot achieve the goals you have set up for yourself. You know, I had to think about that a bit. I was pretty sure I knew where I was to get to where I want to go. Nope, I was wrong.

Any travel at all requires we know where we are so we can design the route to get to the destination. Airplanes are off course 70% of the time when flying; sailing requires some fancy wind catching which can cause you to be off course much of the time – but the airplane knows the destination and the ship knows the destination so allowances can be made for being off course and then getting on course again.

Your realistic goal needs to know what and where you are to get started – project head; timing; materials; support; people…you need to know where you are to get to the goal. In retrospect and upon examination, realistic “knowing” allows us to be safe while we explore the possibility of the goal. Are you willing to take a look at where you are now?
