Zoom is terrific when you make an effort to look and sound good.
Most of us have used Zoom (or another online connection) to stay in touch with each other and our teams at work. One of the reasons I am writing a series of 4 Zoom eBooks (Kindle format too) is to give support and direction to HOW to do this format well.
Remember, people can see. I am flabbergasted at the outfits and how people look when on their calls. No combed hair. Rumpled clothes. No make up (sometimes it is really needed). HUGE dangling earrings that move and float every time you speak. Drink cups that are 36 ounces, not just a simple coffee cup sized container. Eating, eating, eating, without closing your mouth while chewing and when no one else is eating. Scratching body parts. Grooming yourself. Backgrounds that reveal book titles that are no one’s business. Artifacts on bookshelves that are too personal. Not positioned well in front of your monitor. READING emails. Texting during the meeting.
If these are any of your behaviors on screen, remember, we can see you. Not good for your image and certainly not good for our judgments made about you.
