What to do when your patience is all used up!

Patience: the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. It seems so simple, but these days patience is in very short supply. There appear to be several dozen people and situations that have selected you to drive you, normally a very patient person, to distraction and on the verge of anger.

So what do you do? My suggestion is that you completely change where you are and how you are. Whether at work or play, just walk away. Even if it is just 5 feet from where you are now. Home office? No problem. Go find a corner and breathe. Huge corporate setting? No problem, take the stairs to another floor and find a corner to breathe. My recommendation is also to lean on that corner wall. Our bodies love being supported and having a nice strong wall behind your back feels good.

Then count to ten or three thousand. Do not give away your power to someone else or some situation that has occurred. You deserve your patience…being calm and easy moments. You CAN shift total irritation to moments of peace. You are in control. Go find a corner – change the setting and perspective on purpose. A few feet or a few thousand steps. Just move away under your own power and take you with you. Concentrated breathing is prime in gaining control.
