What keeps many women from claiming their achievements?

One of my new favorite books is How Women Rise by Sally Helgesen and Marshall Goldsmith. On page 60 of the book, they discuss the top 12 behaviors that are not helping women rise and/or feel confident and successful.

One of these behaviors that many of my female executive clients find very true for them, is “expecting others to spontaneously notice and reward your contributions”. Women have a natural openness in the way they communicate and are continually surprised when it is not reciprocated. They can feel left out; ignored; undermined and filled with resentment.

A best way to remove the vulnerability of waiting for others to acknowledge you, is to confidently know that their contributions meet and exceed expectations of the mission vision…not just individuals we feel like we need to hear from.
