How many times have you tried to turn your opinions into facts??

People seem to be pretty tired of each other. Road rage. Hoarding. Neighbors with dogs that poop in their lawn. 8 zoom meetings in one day. Yes, people can seem pretty annoying…especially when they have their opinions that they treat like absolute facts.

When people do not feel like they have good control, they can push hard to be right. A simple opinion can get lodged into your brain that you now need the entire world to believe. We get stuck and make the “others” wrong for not listening or believing in our opinions.

There is a more gentle way of winning the opinion/fact war. How? By listening. People have pretty much stopped listening if they think that others will not agree with them. Present, calm, intentional listening works. By listening we are not agreeing with the opinion, we are being respectful and de-escalating the opinion/fact drama.

P.S. Have you taken the NMA Listening Test? You get to see what kind of listener you have become. Try it!!
