Want something new, easy, and enjoyable to help reduce your stress?

The research is in and music and sound can help heal us more quickly than we thought. We have all experienced listening to our favorite music and feeling better. What if music now could help “heal” you from the stressors of the day? I’ve tried this new “brain humming” (don’t dis it until you hear what it is) brought to us by Jim Donovan.

It deals with using your breath. Breathe in and then, with your mouth closed, hum until you need another breath. The humming stimulates the vegas nerve (which is the longest nerve in the body) and brings a nice, calm feeling. Jim recommends humming for at least 2-3 minutes. I am not sure how many breaths that is for you, but I did notice my first time, that the humming embarrassed me and made me feel more calm…more centered.

With people around you, maybe you are embarrassed to hum in front of them. I am bringing this breathing technique to a senior group of executives this week on our call. Everyone I have shared this with – clients, friends, colleagues – really like the practice. You have nothing to lose but your stress. I “hum” several times a day and for several minutes before I go to sleep.
