How can you keep your stress from turning into anxiety?

If you have watched 4-week old puppies or kittens play, you know they have not a care in the world. Life is all joy and in the moment. They wrestle and explore and roll around and then nap. In fact, they end up in a pile of napping – which looks quite wonderful. What can they teach us about our stress levels?

Movement helps relieve stress. Get up and do some wall pushups. Stretch your neck and shoulders. Breathe like you are reaching for air into the deepest parts of your body. Do not be concerned about how you look when you move and stretch your body. The pups and kitties make lots of noise when they play. Growls, tiny woofs – they express their delight in what they are doing. Maybe you could come up with a whoop or fist bump to show yourself how to be engaged in the moment.

My clients receive applause and horn tooting when they are being brilliant during a coaching call. It always makes them smile, whether they are a CEO; engineer; sales rep; customer service executive – it does not matter how “sophisticated” they are, a moment of applause and horn tooting relieves so much stress. Find a “thing” you can do for you and do it!!
