Where oh where has all of my money gone?

Where oh where has all of my money gone?
Last fall, I completed a VIP with a smart gal (executive in technology organization) in NYC. She makes terrific money; is in rent-controlled housing and does not own a car or have a mortgage. During a discussion of action steps, she had completely avoided the discussion of money, savings and investing. I brought up the topic of dollars and she started to cry. No hesitation. Money…tears.
“Natalie, I never have any money…I am broke all of the time.” I asked how her relationship with money started regarding savings, investing and earning dollars. What had she learned about money and who taught her about money? What was the philosophy; how much money was available and how was it handled? All negative. “There was never enough money, ever”, she said.
We closed 10 apps that VIP. We canceled 6 credit and debit cards. She no longer buys on a whim, but has a series of questions to ask when wanting to buy something. She MUST get receipts for all in-person purchases and maintains a running log of the dollars spent – she has a weekly maximum she cannot exceed for coffees, meals, entertainment, etc. As of this date, she has $10,646.00 in her “YAY money” account from not spending the way she did. We also increased her 401K to the maximum and she reviews mutual funds and individual stocks on a monthly basis for purchasing for her accounts. She is pleased, proud, money confident and cash-rich. She always knows how much money she has and how it has been spent…no more fear or shame around her money.
How is your money situation? May we help??
