What bad habits have you allowed into your daily communication?

Manners seem to have floated right up into the stratosphere when it comes to the “rules” of communicating. It is my experience and the experience of my clients – big complaints here really – that people have forgotten how to follow up and communicate well. Some of the behavior is:

  • Not returning emails – even acknowledgement of them
  • Not returning phone calls
  • Not returning a text and then lying about not getting it or your phone is not working or it must have hit a no service area

The best form of taking care of returning information when you do not have time is to tell people that. If you are trying to sell something to someone, ask them if they want to continue to hear from you or not. Acknowledge deadlines and ask for extensions or information, but DO NOT IGNORE people.

The “I am too busy” excuse does not work – everyone is busy. EVERYONE IS BUSY. Decide how you want to communicate and then stick with it. People will respect you oh so very much.

May we help?
