What if no one ever gave you feedback on your work?

What if no one ever gave you feedback on your work?

I know, sometimes you get too much feedback about your work from too many people. But what if you did not get any feedback? How would you know how you were doing?

OK, maybe you don’t want to know on that last project, but what if you received NO feedback? I ask because I know of a genuinely remarkable person who received their performance review (6 years with the organization) with only the boxes checked. No comments. NONE.

Every year this person has received an outstanding performance review. He is valued and has proven his worth. But to receive a performance review with no comments…

I had dinner with him and he was disappointed. His new boss said “you know how I feel about your work – you are great”. People wait all year long to hear how they are doing; to receive feedback of how they did and where they can improve; recommendations for growing and improving; hints about next wonderful possibilities. The spaces were blank.

Don’t do that to anyone no matter how terrific they are…they won’t forget.

May we help?
