Women, Gender and Emotion – Yup, I said the “emotion” word.
The boss said that she was a 9.5 out of 10…and to watch out for that “emotion” stuff. She did not “emotionally” destroy the male boss, but stated the following. You got to love this…
“Thank you. I am truly delighted that you have rated me as a 9.5 out of 10. And for the emotion stuff, I am so pleased you recognized it. My commitment is to continue to bring my passion to this organization, my excellence and to serve with my talents. BTW, is there anything about this ‘emotion’ stuff you mentioned that you think needs refining? You know that I respect your insights.”
What this did was: recognize that she is really good at what she does; acknowledges that she is a woman with passion; asks for feedback from a trusted source and lets him know that she is just fine being recognized with emotion. A very very very good lesson here dear women. Always thank them for recognizing that you care deeply. The insulters don’t know what to do with it and the leaders are informed in what they can count on receiving from your work and you. BOOM.
