Do you think difficult conversations get any easier because you delay having them?
All conversations can be difficult depending on who you are speaking with. The boss can always cause a queasy stomach before a conversation if you are not feeling confident about the topic…or don’t even know what the topic is going to be.
The toughest conversation to have is the one you don’t have. Delaying because you know it is going to be difficult; might cause anger; are scared you won’t do it right and because you have waited forever to even have the necessary conversation.
Confident success producing conversations are the best. Know the outcome you want before the conversation; review the issues that are concerning you and allow people to react if necessary. No one wants difficult information delivered to them. BUT everyone deserves timely, performance producing information to be delivered to them with honesty and rapport.
So how are your “difficult conversation” skills??
